CHAPTER FOUR
Will took the sweats that Dr. Barkley offered and slipped them on. He’d placed his mate on the gurney, but could not under any circumstance stop touching him. Thankfully Dr. Barkley understood and did not try to get him to leave.
“I’m happy for you Will it is such a blessing to find one’s mate.” Dr. Barkley made idle conversation as he went about examining Roman and cleaning his wounds. When he was finished he moved around the table to stand directly in front of Will. “He will be fine. He’s suffered a slight concussion obviously, but as a wolf he will recover fully. He will need to be watched closely and if there are any changes in his condition you must notify me immediately.” Dr. Barkley stressed.
“I will Nick.” Will nodded and gripped Roman’s hand tighter. “When will he wake up?”
“Hard to tell, but shouldn’t be more than twenty four hours. He took a nasty blow to the side of his head, but as I said he’s wolf and he will recover.” Dr. Barkley reached over and brushed the hair away from the side of Roman’s face. “He has a very fair complexion so the bruising will remain for several days. Thankfully nothing was broken.”
Will was anything, but thankful when it came to any aspect of the beating that his mate had taken. His mate had escaped the North Pack and his execution only to be caught and beaten bloody when he crossed onto Rue lands. It made his blood boil to think that Roman was coming to him and instead of safety, he received a beating. Roman was running to him even though he didn’t know Will existed. Fate was bring him here. Will Roman ever forgive him for what happened? Will he be comfortable in his new home or will he always fear the larger wolves?
Will had no idea what Roman’s life had been like back in the North Pack, but considering he was sentenced to die for stating his opinions, it couldn’t have been very good. Considering the reception he received, would Roman believe the Rue Pack as brutal and backward as the pack he escaped?
“I’ll stop by your room in the morning to check on him if that’s okay?” Dr. Barkley stepped back letting Will know he was free to take his mate and leave.
“Sure Nick, I would appreciate that.” Will scooped up his mate and hugged him tightly to his chest. The smell of strawberries enveloped him again and he breathed it in calming his anxious wolf.
“You have a beautiful young man there Will. You’re very lucky.” Dr. Barkley looked almost sad as he spoke. “He will be fine I promise.”
“Thank you.” Will hurried out the door and almost ran the distance between the medical clinic and his room on the second floor. For some reason he couldn’t explain, his wolf was agitated and desperate to get their mate protected behind closed doors.
He settled on his bed with his mate cradled in his lap, not the best position for sleeping, but it was the only position his wolf would accept.
